When specifying door frames, there’s a lot to think about – from appearance and performance through to ease of installation, costs and environmental impact. The good news is that you don’t have to compromise on one aspect to enjoy the benefits of another.

For example, Soundcraft offers a collection of veneer-wrapped fire door frames that are made of FSC®-certified MDF. As part of our range of Veneercraft performance doors and doorsets, these door frames complement the selection of timber fire-rated screens and doors, while also providing a number of additional benefits.

Appearance

The veneer-wrapped MDF door frame (VW/MDF) is manufactured using the same veneer as the corresponding doors. The result is doors and frames that match each other perfectly.

Choose from a variety of wood finishes, including walnut, oak, pine and maple.

Strength

The edges of the VW/MDF door frames are lipped in matching hardwood. This significantly improves their strength and robustness, without compromising on aesthetics or the uniform appearance.

Ease of installation

The VW/MDF frame features a lining and planted stop, rather than a solid frame made from one timber section machined to produce the rebate. While both design options provide satisfactory performance, linings and stops make installation easier.

The stops are made from the same hardwood as the door frame edges and lips, and the frames are supplied with plain paper backing.

Affordable

Because our VW/MDF frames are primarily made from MDF, they are more affordable than solid timber alternatives. The lining and planted stop also help to keep costs down. For example, the VW/MDF frame in walnut is approximately 50% cheaper than the solid timber alternative.

The photograph shows a walnut-veneered frame, housing a 10x4mm intumescent seal, with a solid timber stop and lippings.

Sustainable

Since the door frames are made from FSC®-approved MDF, you can rest assured that they were made from sustainably-sourced materials.
