Congratulations to Mary Duggan Architects for design and RUFF Architects for delivery – winners of RIBA’s Stirling Prize 2026 for the council-commissioned Lion Green Road housing project.
Hailed for its sensitive design and landscape integration, this inspirational suburban housing development in south London was designed and built to reduce its environmental impact by using efficient construction methods and a streamlined building process. Replacing a former car park on a challenging sloping site, Lion Green Road in Coulsdon comprises 157 homes across five 13-sided blocks to provide affordable and private housing for Croydon Council.
Soundcraft’s Senior Estimator Steve Maslin said: “We are enormously proud to be part of a project recognised by the UK’s most prestigious architecture award. Soundcraft utilised Senior Architectural Systems SF52 silicone sealed curtain walling system to create the sleek glazed appearance specified by architects, incorporating glazing in aluminium-faced sandwich panels using the toggle system. Soundcraft’s bespoke Integrity Door Range, with magnetic locking options, delivered all security requirements.”

Speaking on behalf of the RIBA Stirling Prize Jury, Chris Williamson, RIBA President, said: “At a time when we urgently need to deliver more homes, Lion Green Road shows that density can be achieved without compromising the quality of the places we create. Through a consistent specification, with subtle variation in height and orientation, it offers housing at scale without uniformity. The architects have created a new kind of garden neighbourhood that balances privacy and generous views with a strong connection to nature – it’s a living landscape. This is thoughtful, resourceful architecture that proves that even the most challenging of sites can be transformed into truly distinctive places for people to call home.”
