If you’re specifying doors or windows, there are a number of regulations and guidelines to consider.

For example, there’s BS 6375, a British Standard that provides guidance on the selection of performance characteristics for windows and doorsets intended for the UK market. It replaced Publicly Available Specification 23 (commonly known as PAS 23) in May 2013.

BS 6375 includes information about specification, as well as performance characteristics like weather resistance and repeated opening and closing.

It comprises three sections:

● BS 6375-1:2015 – Classification for weather-tightness. Describes how design wind load should be calculated for any given location and how that design wind load is used for the appropriate selection of water-tightness, air permeability and wind resistance classes.

● BS 6375-2:2009 – Classification for operation and strength characteristics. Specifies performance requirements for the operation and strength of manually operated windows and internal/external pedestrian doorsets in their fully finished condition.

● BS 6375-3:2009+A1:2013. Classification for additional performance characteristics such as basic security testing.
