As part of our continual product development and proactive industry testing, Soundcraft has manufactured a timber-framed loft hatch to meet fire rated regulations for the construction sector.

The Soundcraft Loft Hatch was successful tested for 30 minutes to provide evidence utilising the temperature and pressure conditions of BS 476: Part 20 and principles of Part 22: 1987 regulations.

Fire resistance tests were undertaken on two specimens, both measuring 630mm square, hung within hardwood timber frames opening away from the furnace, and hung on 2no satin stainless-steel hinges and fitted with 2no different rim locks.

“It is another first for Soundcraft,” said Managing Director Robert Thomson. “This test is relatively unique in that it provides evidence on a horizontal plane, as opposed to the more standard vertical testing for a fire door set. I am not aware of another timber door set tested like this, generally fire rated loft hatches are supplied as a standard fire door set without test evidence on the horizontal plane, a factor that could prove important for the industry.”
