At Soundcraft we have our own Iron Man, Will Jones, Director of Technical/Contracts!

Last Sunday Will completed his first Ironman 70.3 challenge in 6 hours 58 minutes. The challenge required competitors to swim, cycle and run over a gruelling course.

The event was held in Exmoor National Park, one of the most picturesque areas of England. Many athletes chose to camp on site, creating a unique, friendly but competitive, atmosphere. The reputation of this event was enhanced by its rural location at the heart of Exmoor, and in particular, the challenges of the undulating bike and running courses.

The swimming course was one lap of Wimbleball Lake, clockwise, starting 20m from the shore. The overall distant was 1.2 miles which Will did in in 37minutes.

The Ironman 70.3 UK Exmoor bike event was over a tough two lap course of 56 miles in the heart of the National Park. The course leaves Wimbleball Lake and follows an anti clockwise loop through hilly terrain in a glorious part of Somerset. Will clocked in at 3hours 47 minutes.

Lastly, the run at Wimbleball Lake was a three loop course on a mix of terrain including tarmac, hardpack trail and grass. The course had the advantage of remaining firm underfoot even during prolonged bad weather. There is one short sharp climb in the course which was tackled three times. Overall, as Will mentions below, the run was very tough, but he finished in 2 hours 23 minutes.

Afterwards, Will commented,

“The swim was flat and that’s where the flatness finished! After that it was a very hilly bike course, which everyone had heard of. But no one had mentioned the running course… OMG! It nearly broke me but I managed to finish. I am so grateful for all the amazing support around the course that pushed everyone through when we really needed it and it was such a well organised event. Ironman UK certainly know how to put on a show! Looking back I’d like to better my time and return… One Day!”

We are all so proud of Will’s fantastic achievement .
