After successfully completing the delivery of new fire doors and screens to the communal stairwell areas, Soundcraft is returning to the Thamesmead Estate in South London to commence a second phase of works.

The Soundcraft team has been appointed to supply new flat entrance doorsets to the individual residences as part of the refurbishment of sixteen 12- storey tower blocks that are managed by Peabody, one of London’s oldest and largest housing associations.

The new contract will see the manufacture and installation of FD30 pre-painted fire doors sets, complete with all ironmongery and glazed fanlights. For added reassurance and reliability, Soundcraft has provided primary test evidence prior to installation to confirm that all of the components fitted within the doorset will deliver fire resistance for at least 30 minutes.

The tested door construction comprised a rebated frame with threshold, a side light and over panel, which was a part glazed and part solid panel .To ensure that all possible design variations were considered, the door featured a flush 44mm solid particleboard core, fitted  with a multi-point lock , letter plate, spy hole, automatic  drop seal and glazed vision panel.  The successful test confirmed that the FD30 fire door provided 37 minutes of fire resistance, which is a 23% overrun, before a partial failure was reported.

The test was carried out in accordance with the requirements of BS476 1987: Parts 22 and 31, as well as the Exova BM TRADA 3rd Party Certification Scheme for the Manufacture of Fire Doors. Security requirements have also been met through Soundcraft’s accreditation to the Secured by Design scheme, providing both the client and the residents with an assured safe and secure solution.

With the production of the doorsets now underway in Soundcraft’s in-house manufacturing facility, work is expected to commence on site in August 2018.
