Posted | , .

Soundcraft has secured a substantial project at Oaklands House, the first-phase regeneration site for development of the Old Oak Common area, by Genesis Housing with Queens Park Rangers and Vistry Partnerships.

Cited as one of the UK’s biggest regeneration projects, construction work at Oaklands signals the start of planned land transformation south of the Grand Union Canal in London, and a five-month schedule for Soundcraft to deliver thermally-efficient, high-performance aluminium systems for commercial and residential buildings.

The £175 million mixed-use Oaklands development will provide more than 600 new homes together with 3,500m2 of commercial space, bringing much-needed housing and economic opportunities to the area.

“This is the first major new project undertaken by Soundcraft after the COVID-19 lockdown,” said Michael Bishop, Soundcraft’s Commercial Manager. “It includes many intricate design aspects and we are utilising multiple designers and structural engineers to ensure an exceptionally high standard. Soundcraft is working closely with Vistry Partnerships to complete this extensive project to a tight programme.”

Comprising of three blocks, two residential-commercial combined and one residential only, the Soundcraft team will manufacture and install high-level products including: SF52 Curtain Walling, Zone Spout Drained and Mullion Drained; Aluminium Integrity doors; Integrated Canopies and Integrated Solar Shading to curtain walling, together with Senior Architectural Systems SPW600 swing doors and SPW500 thermally broken commercial doors.

Soundcraft completes transformation of London’s Castlemaine Tower

Posted | , , , .

Appointed by main contractor Durkan Ltd for client Wandsworth Council, Soundcraft has once again provided professional excellence for a significant London property.

Precision manufacturing of a high-performance Hybrid composite timber aluminium range, designed to improve thermal efficiency of the building envelope, was managed at Soundcraft’s factory facility in Kent.

Castlemaine Xline & HybridWorking with supply chain partner Senior Architectural Systems, Soundcraft delivered key products, including SF52 curtain walling and Hybrid series 1 tilt and turn windows, together with installations for winter gardens featuring glass-to-glass corner joints to the curtain wall, utilising Guardian Glass 70/35 for natural light transmission with energy saving solar protection.

Refurbishment of individual properties to upgrade the 21-storey South London block saw an impressive installation programme by Soundcraft’s skilled teams, operating from high-rise scaffolding wrapped around the tower.

During months of intensive work, Soundcraft products and installation successfully passed rigorous tests for weather performance and efficient water penetration resistance, approved by the Centre for Window and Cladding Technology, signed off by Building Control and carried out by VINCI Technology Centre.

Liaison with residents was also paramount during the removal and replacement of the tower’s existing windows and curtain walling, and Soundcraft generated good community relationships to ensure the smooth running of this important project in order to exceed all expectations.

Composite windows, doors and curtain walling systems are increasingly specified for multi-storey buildings.

Soundcraft completes essential work during pandemic

Soundcraft was called upon by AD Construction Group to undertake vital fire door safety upgrades in coronavirus lockdown conditions.

Works at the Cearns House residential block in London E6 were deemed so important that they were carried out during lockdown by Soundcraft, operating within the stringent Risk Assessment Method Statements (RAMS) laid down by main contractor, London and Quadrant.

Tasked with removing existing fire doors and side panels in communal stairwell areas throughout the 14-storey tower, Soundcraft was also responsible for the complete upgrade installation of 60 Minute Oak Veneer fire door sets and glazed side panels.

Jon Fellows, Contracts Manager for AD Construction, said: “Soundcraft’s output and professional compliance on this project has been hugely impressive. Despite the enormous Covid-19 constraints in place, the essential installation was successfully completed and handed over on time.”

A message from Soundcraft

In light of the ongoing and unprecedented impact of COVID-19, Soundcraft is keeping a close eye on the situation and are taking its threat very seriously. We’d like to make a couple of points regarding operations going forward:

Business goes on

We will be maintaining business as usual as much as we can while taking all necessary precautions to protect our employees and clients. Deliveries will continue with enhanced precautions for operators and customers.

Our manufacturing lines are intact at present and we will maintain supply for as long as possible, with deliveries continuing uninterrupted. We’ve ensured that our factory workers are able to be protected from exposure while working. As soon as any type of further risk is perceived by ourselves or by The Government in conducting these types of activities, we are ready to alter operations to whichever extent necessary.

We appreciate the efforts made by all to get through these trying times for businesses, individuals, and families alike.

Thank you for your understanding.

Support Soundcraft’s Angel runner for O2e!

Huge congratulations to Angel Huizar, former Soundcraft employee, who smashed the Cambridge Half Marathon this weekend as part of her London Marathon training for O2e children’s charities.

Angel is now preparing for the big one – so it’s double the training and double the distance for The London Marathon next month – how amazing would it be if we could also double the donations for O2e, Soundcraft’s nominated charity.

Determined to make it past the 26-mile finish line on 26 April, Angel said: “This was my first big run and it was a tough one on the training plan, but there’s no better charity to challenge myself for – O2e does such amazing work in raising funds to help little ones with disabilities and life-threatening illness. I’m proud to be part of the O2e family, so bring on London!”

You can help boost Angel’s efforts and put a little wind beneath her wings by adding a few pounds to her JustGiving Page, your support could make a life-changing difference to UK children who really need our help.

O2e is a 100% non-profit making organisation, so every penny will reach the disadvantaged children who are supported by this year’s chosen charities.

Phenomenal progress at Castlemaine Tower

Posted | , , .

As Soundcraft nears completion at Castlemaine Tower in Battersea, we reveal the latest update on this significant London project.

Having already successfully manufactured and installed no less than 18 floors of SF52 curtain walling and Hybrid Series 1 tilt and turn windows for the 21-storey tower, Soundcraft is now concluding work on the South London residential block.

Operations with supply chain partner Senior Architectural Systems has also incorporated Hybrid Series 1 punch hole windows, together with installations for winter gardens, which feature glass-to-glass corner joints to the curtain wall, utilising Guardian Glass 70/35 to provide high natural light transmission with energy saving and solar protection.

“This has been a substantial project for Soundcraft and we are enormously proud of our achievements,” said Site Supervisor Scott Crew. “All windows have been installed and curtain walling is complete right down to level two. Once the scaffolding is removed from site, Soundcraft can finalise work on level-one properties, with total completion proposed for early spring.”

Appointed by main contractor Durkan Ltd for client Wandsworth Council, Soundcraft’s impressive installation has been carried out by the company’s skilled teams operating from high-rise scaffolding wrapped around the London tower.

Liaison with the local community has also played an essential part in this successful progress. “With six occupied flats per floor and internal finishing required, good communications with all residents has been paramount,” said Soundcraft’s Rob O’Connell. “Combined with our continual office support and our key factory operations being ahead of the game in providing materials, we have maintained good and solid relationships for the smooth running of this site with our operatives at Castlemaine fulfilling expectations.”

Hybrid solutions for Mayplace Primary School

Posted | , , , , .

In another successful local authority project, Soundcraft was appointed by London-based construction company Rooff to supply and install thermally-efficient, high-performance hybrid composite and aluminium systems at Mayplace Primary School in Bexleyheath.

The skilful Soundcraft team delivered curtain walling and Hybrid 1 SPW600 windows and SPW501 doors for the school extension of a new main entrance hall, reception classroom and a new school block housing six classrooms – designed to facilitate the school’s expansion from two-form entry to three-form entry.

Working alongside Rooff, Energy Conscious Design ECD Architects and Senior Architectural Systems SAS, the project was completed while the school was fully occupied during construction of the new building, which is set into the landscape with a two-storey brise soleil to the south façade.

Soundcraft produces high-level results for London’s iconic South Quay Plaza

Posted | , .

Topping out at 68 storeys, South Quay Plaza is the Berkeley Group’s tallest ever building and set to be the third tallest residential building in London, once complete in 2022.

The expert team at Soundcraft was appointed to manufacture and supply 600 apartment entrance door frames, architraves and matching reveals to the corridors of this landmark project on the impressive Docklands skyline.

Prior to the manufacture, Berkeley Homes commissioned Soundcraft to undertake two project-specific fire tests in order to provide primary test evidence for the entrance doors, comprising of all the ironmongery and fixing detail that would be used on the site installation.

“Because of the amount of fire testing being carried out in the UK post Grenfell, the sets were sent to Metz in France for testing to the more exacting European EN 1634-1:2008 standard,” said Soundcraft’s Managing Director Robert Thomson. “The fire door sets were tested dual orientation, to open towards and away from the furnace, both tests achieved in excess of the 30 minutes required,” he confirmed. “Soundcraft worked in conjunction with the carpentry sub-contractor Stratton and Hessler to deliver this project on time and to the quality expected by Berkeley Homes – we are incredibly proud of our work on this prestigious development.”

Located at South Dock in the Isle of Dogs, the new development will provide 888 mixed tenure homes with 2.6 acres of new public squares, gardens and children’s playspaces for the local community. The unique Foster + Partners design includes a 45-degree architectural rotation which gives the majority of homes a riverside view, while allowing more light to reach the landscaped public gardens.

South Quay Plaza won the multi-storey award at the National House Building Council’s (NHBC) annual National Health and Safety Awards in July. This is the second time the development has been awarded the honour.
