A contract to manufacture and install 400 front entrance doorsets for the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames (RBK) was awarded to Soundcraft in December 2013. The work, valued at £460,000 is due to start in February 2014.

The Royal Borough selected Soundcraft, not only for offering the best value, but also for satisfying the demanding criteria regarding health and safety, sustainable sourcing, financial strength and experience of similar work. This latter point was amply illustrated with reference to the Company’s current FED project for Wandsworth Council, involving 1800 doors.

The doorsets to be installed by Soundcraft for RBK will be manufactured and installed under the Exova BM Trada 3rd Party Certification Schemes for the Manufacture and Installation of Fire Doors. The doorsets include over-panels and side lights in some areas, and have to provide FD30S performance. All timber used will be FSC®. In addition, the doorsets are Secured by Design. Residents will be offered a choice of five colours, and special provision will be made for vulnerable residents.

The Kingston project is further proof of Soundcraft’s leading position as a manufactuer and installer of bespoke performance doors and doorsets for the social housing market. The range of doors includes, in addition to FEDs, security doors for communal housing, typically the portcullis design, in either timber or steel.
