In January Soundcraft finished a major two year fire door project for Kingston University. Over 3500 fire doors were involved. The value of the contract was £815,000.

The works included the installation of over 500 new white laminate faced fire doors providing FD30S and FD60S fire resistance. In addition, timber fire rated screens and doors were installed in stairwells and communal walkways. A significant element of the project was the upgrading of existing doors to improve fire resistance.

Doors were manufactured and installed under the Exova BM Trada 3rd Party Certification Schemes for the Manufacture and Installation of Fire Doors.

As the university has over seventy buildings across nine sites considerable logistical challenges existed which required close co-operation between the various academic and residential occupants. Work in academic areas was carried out at night to avoid disruption.

An interesting aspect of the project was that elements of it were used by Exova BM Trada to pilot its 3rd Party Certification Scheme for the Maintenance of Fire Doors. This resulted in Soundcraft becoming the first Company to be registered under the scheme.
